It was great to see Joseph Arthur in Manchester, after such a long time, playing at the Manchester Deaf Institute, November 9th! An incredibly talented songwriter, poet, and painter, the last time Joseph Arthur was live at the Manchester Deaf Institute was way back in 2009 – with the Lonely Astronauts .

Wearing a military style jacket with white lapels and red collar and gold buttons, Joseph Arthur entered the stage with a buzzing energy, wearing his shades for the majority of the show. Joseph played a really great mixture of songs that he has written over the years, all equally through provoking, poignant and universal. This resonated and keeps the same crowd coming back to the shows. The faces were familiar and excited to see Joseph back in the U.K. Let’s hope to see him back a little sooner next time!

Throughout the night the crowd was entranced, and there were emotional moments and tears, especially on the last track “In the Sun” – taken from album Come To Where I’m From – Joseph Arthur walked off the stage and walked towards the crowd and merged with them. Everyone sang along. “Honey and Moon” was another old favourite, released on the album Redemption’s Son in 2002.

It was a very memorable evening with regards to the political state of affairs with Donald Trump now in President-Elect. Arthur recited a poem and commenced to play his “Campaign Song”.

A neat cover by Lou Reed was played also “Walk on the Wild Side”. This also went down well with the crowd.

Joseph Arthur created his well-awaited painting on stage, which – if you check out on his Instagram – seems to have a Trump style hair cut vibe.
