The Wire Magazine, Energy: A Documentary About Damo Suzuki - Review

Heighway cleverly cuts these slower sequences with lively cartoon-style animations of Suzuki's stories recounting of a hospital bed dream, the story or how he joined Can. She also draws on a rich archive of historical concert footage, images and some insightful interview snippets from Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit, who died in 2017.
Suzuki the man-sized lightning rod receiving energy from his audience. He empties himself out and fills back up again. He says, "Energy exists if there is an opponent... one person cannot create energy. Energy comes from two persons or more persons. That's why this energy is positive and beautiful.

In this issue I really enjoyed reviewing a new @beautypill anthology, and two fab collections from @ModernHarmonic that unearth some rough gems from the NYC downtown scene. I also reviewed @energythefilm, a documentary about Damo Suzuki... https://t.co/4otlgnttrO

Kudos to @i4visuals for skillfully enabling to experience Damo Suzuki's thought process (which i believe is one with his creative process).
A fantastic documentary. pic.twitter.com/yZ20Tw14v2
Highly recommend giving @energythefilm a watch for a visually beautiful, often emotionally charged but generally captivating and fun look at one of musicβs most interesting, enigmatic artists! https://t.co/2lBsBBWNVw pic.twitter.com/gu1zqG9dYC

The film is a love letter to creativity, strength and faith. Jacob @INTERI0R makes a lovely cameo at @M3_7LW offering to tether Damo's laptop so that he can watch the Liverpool v Brighton game. BEST. REP. EVER.

The film's epic scale sees Heighway's camera dip in and out of Suzuki's life across five years as his 20-year odyssey performing live is interrupted by ill health. https://t.co/1Db7CO7PJ2
